TARGet Kids! COVID-19 Study of Children and Families
Dr. Catherine Birken, The Hospital for Sick Children
Dr. Jonathon Maguire, St. Michael’s Hospital
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was declared a global pandemic in March 2020 and has changed our daily lives. Currently, little is known about this virus and how it is impacting children and their families. The TARGet Kids! researchers would like to know how often COVID-19 is occurring among children and households, the severity of the illness, and how the spread of the virus and the preventive measures being taken, are impacting families in Toronto and the surrounding areas.
Study participants will be tested for serology (to detect COVID-19 virus antibodies) to determine whether they have been exposed to the virus. Small blood samples, taken at home, by finger poke, will be collected in order to test. Participants will also answer online questionnaires related to COVID-19.
